I'm a Certified Consulting Meteorologist with over a decade of experience in air dispersion modeling, atmospheric science, and environmental data analysis. My work centers on the regulatory air quality modeling used for NAAQS compliance determinations and permitting — AERMOD, AERMET, AERSURFACE, and the surface and upper-air meteorological data that feed them — along with GIS analysis, remote sensing, and the statistical programming that ties it together.
I currently serve as a Senior Lead Consultant – Air Quality at Ramboll. I'm also a sitting Board Member of the Certified Consulting Meteorologist program with the American Meteorological Society.
I build tools. Regulatory meteorological data — NOAA's station inventories, period-of-record histories, the upper-air network that AERMET draws on — is public, but it's scattered across formats that were never designed to be looked at, let alone defended in front of a reviewer. This site is where I publish the tools I've built to make that data usable, along with the methodology behind them, so other people doing this work don't have to rebuild the same station parsers from scratch.
Across these roles my work has spanned NAAQS compliance modeling and permitting support, GIS and remote sensing analysis (MODIS, VIIRS, OMI, Landsat, GOES, and others), emissions inventory development, wind energy siting and shadow flicker/visibility studies, and WRF/WRF-UEMS mesoscale modeling. I write and maintain processing pipelines in R, Python, Perl, and FORTRAN for the pre- and post-processing that regulatory modeling actually runs on.
Most of what shows up in the tools on this site started as something I built for myself first. I run a home weather station and instrumentation setup, do amateur radio, and get out for astrophotography under reasonably dark New England skies. The same instinct that has me tuning a weather dashboard on a weekend is the one that had me build the station-inventory maps here on a weeknight because I was tired of NOAA's raw file formats.
This site, and everything on it, reflects my own independent views and work. It is not affiliated with, reviewed by, or representative of my employer, and nothing here should be read as an official position of Ramboll or any firm I have worked for. The tools are built from public NOAA and EPA data sources, documented on their own pages, and offered as-is for anyone doing this kind of work. They are aids to research and scoping, not a substitute for your own QA/QC, and not a regulatory determination.
